- ➤ MountainView Regional Medical Center kicked off its 4th Annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive on March 1 to collect nut butters for families facing food insecurity in Las Cruces; donations can be dropped off at the hospital lobby or Walmart locations through March 31 (Casa de Peregrinos distributes them). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Alta Vista Early College High School students earned top honors at the Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session after a coin flip broke a deadlock. They were recognized on Feb. 26 at Loma Linda Elementary by the Gadsden Board of Education, marking a milestone for the district. The Las Cruces Bulletin
- ➤ The NMSU Foundation named Loren A. Maybrier as its new assistant vice president for development. He will boost fundraising, mentor the team and expand donor support for NMSU’s mission (drawing on his experience from UT San Antonio). The Las Cruces Bulletin
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Centennial High’s boys basketball team rallied from an 11-point deficit to beat Las Cruces 48-46 in overtime on Feb. 29 to win the District 3-5A championship and will host Carlsbad at 5:00 p.m. on March 7 for the state opener while Las Cruces hosts Albuquerque at 4:00 p.m. The Las Cruces Bulletin
- ➤ NM State baseball rallied to an 8–6 win against previously undefeated New Mexico on March 3 at Presley Askew Field — a four-run seventh inning gave the Aggies the victory. The team will host No. 25 UTSA in a three-game series starting Friday at 6 p.m. The Las Cruces Bulletin
- ➤ Centennial High Girls Basketball won a District 3 title with a 50-39 victory over Las Cruces on Feb. 27 and now holds the No. 7 seed for the State Championships; they will host 10th-seeded Volcano Vista Friday at 6 p.m. (The win avenged their sole district loss.) The Las Cruces Bulletin
