- ➤ Alan English was named Interim Publisher of The Las Cruces Bulletin and will start on March 31. He brings more than 30 years of community journalism experience—guiding the paper during its leadership transition while a search is underway for a permanent publisher. The Las Cruces Bulletin
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ In the wake of Friday’s mass shooting at Young Park, a Family Assistance and Resource Center is open today at the Las Cruces Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.—local organizations are offering free support and transportation for anyone affected. The Las Cruces Bulletin
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Doña Ana County Community College will hold its annual volleyball tournament on Saturday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Intramural fields in the NMSU Recreational Center at 1600 Stewart Street to launch a diaper bank for student families; teams must register online—donating one box of diapers or baby wipes worth $50 to compete in both competitive and recreational divisions. - ➤ New Mexico State University’s College of Arts and Sciences will host the Big Bang Bash: Where Arts and Sciences Collide, a family event with hands-on science and art demos and a mobile planetarium that will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 3 at Kent Hall (1280 E. - ➤ Registration is open for the 2025 Summer Reading Program, a free initiative for 15,000 students from incoming kindergarteners to outgoing eighth graders with small-group instruction from trained literacy instructors—run by the New Mexico Public Education, Higher Education and Early Childhood Education and Care Departments. The program will run in June and July to help students improve reading skills and prevent summer reading loss. The Las Cruces Bulletin
- ➤ On March 21st, 144 student doctors from Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine gathered at New Mexico Farm and Ranch Museum for Match Day where they opened envelopes to learn their residency placements. About 25 percent of the students received offers in the mission region, including Las Cruces, as their placements aim to help address the local doctor shortage. The Las Cruces Bulletin
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Citywide water restrictions begin on April 1 and ban watering outside vegetation from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; even-numbered addresses may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays while odd-numbered addresses are allowed on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays with no watering on Mondays.
