COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officials broke ground on Oct.11 for Chaparral's first permanent food pantry at 190 County Line near the Betty McKnight Community Center—designed to serve families from Doña Ana and Otero counties—while construction will finish by early 2026.  Las Cruces Today

CRIME NEWS

  • Las Cruces Police Chief Jeremy Story said Tuesday that cameras will be placed in city parks after a shooting in Young Park killed three and injured 15 on March 21 — the cameras will be installed in May.  The Las Cruces Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • Multiple arts events are set to take place in Las Cruces and nearby venues this week—starting Friday, March 28 with a Haunted Canna Crawl at the Old Dona Ana Courthouse and a play with comic mishaps at the Rio Grande Theatre running until April 6. Other shows include a robot tale at Las Cruces Community Theatre, free music at a local gallery on Saturday, MMA at the Pan American Center, film screenings, and live concerts with community talks into early April.  The Las Cruces Bulletin
  • Las Cruces community events fill the calendar through early April. LCPS United presents Les Misérables at the high school theater through March 29—other events include a Friday art party at Little Toad Creek Brewery and a Saturday Vietnam Veterans welcome ceremony.  The Las Cruces Bulletin
  • A new science fiction play, Rossum’s Universal Robots, opens Friday, March 28th at Las Cruces Community Theatre on N. Main St. and runs through Sunday, April 13th. First-time director Jason Wyatt blends AI-generated design and human creativity—creating a modern take on the classic story about robots seeking freedom.  The Las Cruces Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews are paving the inside lanes of westbound US 70/North Main Street — the project began on March 26 and will finish on March 28 — leaving one outside lane open between Elks Drive and North Solano/Three Crosses Road. Motorists must obey a 35 mph speed limit as access to homes and businesses remains open and work is set to end mid-April.  The Las Cruces Bulletin
  • Amanda Bowen has been named the new Emergency Manager for the Office of Emergency Management that serves Doña Ana County and Las Cruces. She was Deputy Manager and acted as Interim Emergency Manager since May 2024 — her work during the 2019 migrant crisis and the 2020 COVID-19 response earned her recognition as Emergency Management Support Staff Member of 2024.  The Las Cruces Bulletin
