- ➤ The state Supreme Court vacated the felony murder conviction of Mawu Ekon Revels, a Las Cruces man convicted in a 2021 house party shooting that killed Nicodemus Gonzales—he will face resentencing and may be retried on a felony or lesser murder charge. The Las Cruces Bulletin
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The New Mexico Supreme Court granted a stay in Brad Lunsford’s appeal to review Attorney General Raúl Torrez’s petition for superintending control—halting district court proceedings to protect the safety and privacy of a Dona Ana County juror. The court will evaluate the risks of potential online harassment and intimidation as the appeal continues. Las Cruces Sun News
- ➤ Las Cruces Police Chief Jeremy Story said the department is short on officers after the March 21 Young Park shooting that left three dead and 15 injured. He added that fewer people have joined the force since summer 2020 and local officers often rely on help from outside agencies — as shown during an April 2 car chase — to manage calls in a challenging policing climate.
