CRIME NEWS

  • Crime Stoppers of Las Cruces and Doña Ana County sought the public’s help in identifying a male suspect involved in an incident at about 10:45 p.m. on February 9 on the south sidewalk of the 600 block of W. Picacho Avenue — he was seen with a medium-sized dog with medium to long black fur, white markings, and a black right ear and is wanted for negligent use of a deadly weapon and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon with up to $1,000 offered for tips.  The Las Cruces Bulletin

EDUCATION NEWS

  • U.S. News and World Report placed New Mexico State University in the top 100 for nurse anesthesiology and social work today, with the nurse anesthesiology program tied for 80th and the social work program tied for 95th. Other undergraduate and graduate programs at NMSU also earned national rankings—these include English, speech-language pathology, earth sciences, engineering, and education.  The Las Cruces Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Las Cruces City Clerk Christine Rivera was named New Mexico Clerk of the Year by the Municipal League at its conference in Taos from April 9th to 11th. The award recognized her work to modernize office processes — by implementing automated agenda and IPRA management software — and to boost public transparency.  The Las Cruces Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • The New Mexico Department of Health warned that baby chicks and ducklings may carry Salmonella bacteria that can cause diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps—especially in children under 5. The department advised that these birds should not be given as Easter gifts and that older children must wash their hands after handling poultry.  The Las Cruces Bulletin
  • The United Health Foundation has awarded $1.5 million to La Clinica De Familia to expand prenatal and gynecological care in rural Southern New Mexico—$100,000 has also been allocated to the New Mexico Doula Association to support doula training over the next two years to improve infant and maternal health.  The Las Cruces Bulletin
