- ➤ Las Cruces Police Chief Jeremy Story said that on May 8 a police officer, finishing his shift near 925 South Walnut St, fatally shot 18‑year‑old Josiah Perrault after witnesses said he brandished his weapon during a foot chase between teen groups — the officer is on paid administrative leave and an investigation is underway. - ➤ Renowned Las Cruces writer Denise Chávez told Casa Camino Real Bookstore she is reducing store inventory to offset a recent rent increase and plans to eventually close the store for a cultural resource center — a move that reflects her commitment to local arts and community history.
