CULTURE NEWS

  • After World War II, Las Cruces grew fast because of work at White Sands Proving Grounds and new suburbs took business from Main Street. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Las Cruces Public Schools, Arrowhead Park Early College High School, Rio Grande Preparatory Institute and Organ Mountain High School improved their graduation rates in the 2024 cohort, and the New Mexico Public Education Department recognized them during a recent meeting—this success comes as the schools used data-driven strategies and targeted support to overcome challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic—local officials say the improvements reflect ongoing efforts to help every student succeed.  The Las Cruces Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State environmental officials are evaluating rare emergency power after tests taken May 7 at a Santa Teresa plant recorded arsenic levels above the federal limit—this action may force the Camino Real Regional Utility Authority, which serves about 19,000 people in southern Doña Ana County, to provide alternate water supplies if a health threat is confirmed.  The Las Cruces Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez praised NMSU on May 20th for finishing 21 of 35 state anti-hazing recommendations linked to issues from the 2022-2023 basketball season.
