CULTURE NEWS

  • Taiwanese immigrant artist Chiung Fang Chang debuted her solo exhibition 'Little Theaters of the Heart' at the Doña Ana Arts Council Gallery on June 6, where visitors saw colorful prints, paintings and sculptures that mix Arizona landscapes with vivid market scenes. The exhibition runs until August 1 — admission is free to the public.  The Las Cruces Bulletin
  • The Mesilla Valley Jazz and Blues Society partners with the New Mexico Juneteenth Jazz Arts Festival to bring jazz music to Plaza de Las Cruces. The free festival runs from today until June 22 and will close with a performance by local group Footprints — featuring a special set by jazz bassist Nat Reeves.  The Las Cruces Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Doreen Gallegos said abandoned and burned-out buildings hurt property values and cause safety concerns in Doña Ana County — local leaders plan to use programs like Housing New Mexico’s Restoring our Communities to rehabilitate these properties — while efforts to boost affordable housing continue.  The Las Cruces Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alex Burr, aged 93, will compete in the power walking event at the New Mexico Senior Olympics in Las Cruces from June 18 to 22. Nearly 200 seniors registered for 26 sports and the games will feature an opening ceremony and a health fair at the Convention Center—organizers will announce a new host city by the end of the month.  The Las Cruces Bulletin
