Rosario “Chayo” Garcia now leads the Progress Club in Las Cruces, where she supports scholarships, library projects, veteran outreach and more through volunteer service.
Drawing on years running local businesses and working in schools, she connects her past in Española to her home here — uniting neighbors with active community spirit.
A variety of recurring community events continue in Las Cruces, including grief groups at High Desert Hospice, farmers markets, writing meetups, Fort Selden ranger-led tours, and support as well as meditation sessions.

Shannon, a freshman at Arrowhead Park Early College, and her sisters from Virtual Learning Academy started Happy Prints, a 3D printing business — making toys and keychains from quick prints to intricate designs.
They launched the venture three years ago through a school program to build teamwork and useful skills.

Ron Giron, a four-time champion, recalled his early days of playing with a borrowed putter while the old tournament sparked his lifelong love of golf.
Robert Caldwell is reviving the event (a nod to decades of local spirit) so golfers can soon meet in friendly competition.
