ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Las Cruces police said that on June 13 a 48-year-old pedestrian, Juan A. Haro, was fatally struck by a vehicle near Boutz and El Paseo around 10:50 p.m.—the investigation continues as police have interviewed the 17-year-old driver and no charges have been filed. Las Cruces Sun News

- ➤ Manuel Fred Barraza is a Silver City native whose illustrations in the bilingual book from Branigan Library in Las Cruces show his talent and passion for art; he built his career drawing, painting and teaching while serving on state art boards. - ➤ Southern New Mexico residents and members of Congress have opposed proposed changes to the Organ Mountains—Desert Peaks National Monument that may open the land to drilling, mining, and other developments. Nearly 200 locals signed a letter urging federal protection to preserve the area’s recreation and tourism benefits. The Las Cruces Bulletin
- ➤ Agricultural businesses in Las Cruces can apply for internship funding through the New Mexico Department of Agriculture program, which began June 16 and offers reimbursement for up to 50% (capped at $15,000 per intern) of internship costs for hiring up to three interns with each internship lasting a minimum of 130 hours. The funds are available for internships starting after July 1 and must be used by May 30, and applications will be accepted until March 31. Las Cruces Today

- ➤ New Mexico State University announced it will begin paying athletes directly on July 1—after a class action lawsuit against the NCAA led to a $2.75 billion settlement and revenue sharing—to help the school compete in sports.
