Jakob Atwell grew a 27-table card show from early 2025 into an event drawing 1,800 attendees and 130 vendors, and organizers will host the next show at the Convention Center on July 18.
The event supports local food drives (benefiting Casa de Peregrinos and El Caldito Soup Kitchen).
🎭 Culture
The NAACP is hosting Juneteenth events: the Gospel Explosion will start at 7 p.m. Friday, June 19 at Heart for the World Church, and the Banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 20 at the Convention Center (tickets cost $100) to celebrate freedom.
🎓 Education
A new paid pre-apprenticeship program by The Bridge and FAMCO is giving local high school graduates hands-on construction training this summer, where students like Adrian Lemus learn project skills and earn certifications while exploring career paths at working sites.

New Mexico’s top high school baseball players gathered at Field of Dreams Baseball Complex in Las Cruces for the 49th Bob Ogas All-Star Classic (June 12-14) as a send-off before college.
Organizers plan a 50th and final edition next year to celebrate nearly five decades of community support.
Three former NMSU players (Bradish, Ortiz and Gonzales) were inducted into US Bank/NMSU Athletics Hall of Fame in January after their 2018 WAC win.
Bradish pitches for Orioles while Ortiz and Gonzales will play for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic in March.
