Las Cruces police are searching for an African-American man about 5-foot-11 with short hair and a goatee who was last seen on June 14 in the 200 block of east Idaho Avenue wearing a black hoodie and dark pants and is accused of stabbing a 39-year-old man who escaped to a nearby Walgreens after the suspect demanded his car keys and spoke with a mid-west or east coast accent.

Las Cruces residents have dealt with heavy smoke this week from the Trout Fire in the Gila National Forest; Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham declared a state of emergency on June 17 to allow state and federal aid for fire management and relief efforts in Grant County—where $750,000 has been allocated to support additional resources.
