Las Cruces Police Department hosted a town hall on July 16—where officers divided over 60 community members into breakout groups to discuss traffic, crime reduction, community outreach, internal affairs and recruiting.
Police Chief Jeremy Story said that since January 1, violent crime decreased 18% while property crime dropped 9% and overall crime fell 10%, with residents sharing ideas and concerns.
As Las Cruces Public Schools prepare to start classes on July 25 for kindergarten, sixth and ninth graders and on July 28 for other grades, health officials urge parents to update vaccines for children amid a measles outbreak that infected 95 people last spring.
The Las Cruces Public Health Office at 1170 N. Solano Dr will offer free vaccination events for children 18 and under from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 25, 28 and 29 with additional events running until August 30.
