Since late April, the Las Cruces Police Department has run Operation Not in Vain—named in honor of slain officer Jonah Hernandez—to patrol high crime hotspots with support from state and county agencies, which has resulted in 94 felony arrests, 98 misdemeanor arrests and the seizure of over 2,300 fentanyl pills while contributing to a 10% drop in overall crime; the program is scheduled to end this month.
Local 4-H students won the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championship in Grand Island, Nebraska in late June—led by Coach Travis Brown—and included Lilliana Barraza, Jadon Trevino, Brenden Morris and Weston Marr.
