The Activity Pool at the Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center (1401 E.
Hadley Ave.) is closed for repairs with no set reopening date as the city works to obtain needed parts. The Natatorium (1405 E. Hadley Ave.) is open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the East Mesa Bataan Memorial Pool (6141 Reynolds Dr.) and Laabs Pool (750 W. Picacho Ave.) offer sessions Friday through Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

A Las Cruces man, Jaime Lopez, 35, was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in prison for fentanyl trafficking and illegal firearm possession—he pleaded guilty after fleeing police on May 21 and was later arrested when officers recovered 690 fentanyl pills and a stolen handgun.
Chef Tom Drake of Doña Ana Community College has been nominated as New Mexico Chef of the Year and the New Mexico Restaurant Association will announce the winner in late September.
He will also teach nontraditional holiday cuisine and sausage and cheese making as the college plans to add a third section due to high demand.
New Mexico State University will start a new Ph.D. program in Transborder and Global Dynamics this fall to study issues at the U.S.-Mexico border and other boundaries, with nine students enrolled and an application deadline of January 8 for the next cohort.
The program—led by Neil Harvey and local faculty member Alejandro Lugo—will support research for policy guidance and address border challenges in our region.
