- ➤ A Las Cruces man, Guillermo Yanez, 47, was sentenced last week to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing drugs with intent to distribute — his charges came from a May 15 incident when officers chasing an outstanding warrant recovered methamphetamine, fentanyl-laced pills, and powdered fentanyl from him as he fled on foot. - ➤ The Doña Ana Board of County Commissioners voted 5—1 to table a vote on bond questions for the November ballot because some members said the language was too vague to show how funds will be used—commissioners plan to revisit the questions on August 26th as community meetings highlighted needs for housing, roads and public safety. - ➤ Local elected officials held a press conference on Saturday at the base of the Organ Mountains to warn that federal cuts to public land could hurt the local economy. State Senator Carrie Hamblen and Mesilla Mayor Russel Hernandez stressed the need to protect the Organ Mountain-Desert Peaks National Monument—an asset that attracts 600,000 visitors and injects $35 million into the community every year. - ➤ NM State women's soccer opened its 2025 season with a 2-1 loss to Colorado College on Thursday night at the Soccer Athletic Complex; the Aggies equalized early before Colorado College pulled ahead—goalkeeper Valerie Guha made four key saves.
