Lawyers, activists and lead plaintiff Ruby Kirker held a press conference to celebrate a legal victory against MountainView Regional Medical Center for collecting debts from low income patients.
The hospital settled with 277 patients for about $399,000—each person will receive $625 and refunds up to $200,000 while its debt collection practices change.
