  • Main Street Las Cruces secured a $10,000 grant from the New Mexico Tourism Department to boost the Chile Drop event that draws over 9,000 visitors each year and will expand its program and promotion — including the signature midnight chile pepper drop on Dec. 31.  The Las Cruces Bulletin
  • Local Las Cruces author Charmayne Samuelson won five awards for her book Mata Ortiz Poetry of the Clay, which features art and poetry from 24 potters—she will meet fans and sign books at the Southern New Mexico Book Festival on Oct. 11 at the DACC East Campus.  The Las Cruces Bulletin

  • Doña Ana Community College is hosting its 3rd annual Halloween Costume Drive at Chaparral Elementary School to collect gently used or new costumes for underprivileged children—donations are accepted at DACC Financial Aid offices at East Mesa, Gadsden Center, Sunland Park, and Espina campuses until October 22 at 5 p.m.  Las Cruces Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Naeten Mitchell and Ryan Hawk were honored by Conference USA on Oct. 6 after the Aggies won 37-10 over Sam Houston last Thursday. Mitchell earned the Defensive Player of the Week award — Hawk earned the Special Teams Player honor, adding to the Aggies' 11 weekly awards since joining the conference in 2023.  The Las Cruces Bulletin
