Las Cruces Film Festival Eyes SXSW-like Growth with Los Lonely Boys Concert

The Las Cruces International Film Festival (LCIFF) aims to emulate Austin's famed South by Southwest, with founder Ross Marks envisioning the expansion of the festival into a broader cultural event encompassing film, live music, and other related activities. Celebrating its 10th year, the festival, based at New Mexico State University's Creative Media Institute, featured celebrity guests and is growing in both attendance and industry recognition. This ambition steps forward with its first concert event, featuring Los Lonely Boys, known for their hit “Heaven”, on Sept. 20 at the Grapevine Plaza, as a fundraiser for LCIFF and the American Collegiate Talent Showcase scholarship program. Marks’ connection with the band and strategic use of local venues supports his vision of a comprehensive cultural event in Las Cruces.

Las Cruces Firefighters Honor 9/11 Anniversary

The Las Cruces Fire Department observed the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a solemn ceremony, beginning with a silent watch to honor the moment the first plane hit the World Trade Center. Firefighters at Station 1 rang a ceremonial bell for each pivotal event that unfolded on that tragic day in 2001, while a massive garrison flag was displayed overhead. The events remembered include the crashes of American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77, and United Flight 93, as well as the collapses of the North and South Towers. The ceremony paid tribute to the nearly 3,000 lives lost, including 343 firefighters, and acknowledged the continuing toll on first responders, with at least 377 additional deaths from related illnesses.

Thousands of New Mexicans start their day with Daily Las Cruces

“Reading the newsletter has become a really positive daily habit for me. I read it while drinking my coffee and planning the day. It saves me a ton of time, but it's really enjoyable too. It's great to have the news filtered down to just a handful of critical events everyday that actually matters to me. I also like reading the community profiles. They interview people locally like teachers, politicians, and small business owners. It's hard to find this anywhere else.”

“I'm a senior citizen here in Las Cruces, and this newsletter is like a lifeline. I don't have the attention span these days to read the paper, and Facebook is a mess. This newsletter keeps me informed, without taking the whole day from me.”

“I like how this newsletter keeps me connected with our community. It's great to have a dedicated source that focuses on what's going on locally. So many news companies are focused on huge attention-grabbing national headlines. But, besides the entertainment value, it's not really relevant to my day-to-day. Also it's great the newsletter is free.”

“This newsletter has been a game-changer for my business. It not only highlights local news but also features small businesses like mine. It's a great platform for local exposure.”

“I'm a parent, and it's apparent how busy that makes me. I LOVE newspapers (especially the smell), but I never have time to read it anymore. So thank god this newsletter exists, and I can read it in a few minutes. If anything is really critical or catches my eye, I can always spend more time reading into each piece of news, but it isn't usually necessary.”
