If you've wondered who's watching Project Jupiter, the county's new Community Monitoring Committee held its first meeting Saturday, Oct. 31. Members elected Lynn Moorer, a local resident with extensive experience in environmental law, as chair over nominee Arturo Terrazas.
Some residents left questioning the committee's independence. Santa Teresa resident Irene Rodriguez cited some members' role in drafting initial bylaws before the full committee convened. Others raised pollution, water, noise, heat and the project's distance from schools and neighborhoods.
- Draft bylaws: regular meetings, public access, live Spanish interpretation
- Recordings and transcripts: planned for the county's Project Jupiter website
- Next: forums with invited experts on topics members choose
- Meeting spots: committee expected to discuss sites closer to the project
4 hourslength of the committee's first meeting
Much of it went to rules of order, debating member conduct amendments and electing leadership.

Dobbin said greater transparency and access to reliable information would be necessary to rebuild public trust. Residents can also suggest topics and experts for future forums.
